![]() ![]() KICKSTARTER RISE OF THE THIRD POWER FREEIn his free time, he collected early VR headsets from the ‘80s and ‘90s, amassing a worthy collection from government auctions and industry liquidation sales. A Fateful EncounterĪs a 15-year-old, Palmer Luckey was captivated by the idea of virtual reality. Today, not only are its headsets featured prominently in every holiday gift guide, the company has forever transformed the virtual reality landscape.īut how exactly did Oculus grow from a crowdfunding sensation into a mass-market consumer brand so quickly? And what can other brands learn about keeping engagement and interest high after initial buzz and excitement dwindles? (Or, in Oculus’s case, when your acquisition faces widespread backlash.) Consider this everything you need to know about Oculus’s meteoric rise. Two short years later, they were acquired by Facebook for a whopping $2 billion. Take that as you will, I'm not familiar with Nintendos policy regarding the matter either.Nine years ago, Oculus raised $2.5 million on Kickstarter. but I just don't feel totally confident about it.Īnyway, in keeping with our policy of being as open and honest about these issues as we can, I wanted to go ahead and give this update.Ģ) I don't know how Switch keys work, but assuming they are like Steam and I'm allowed to give as many as I like to whomever I like, I'll be happy to give a Switch copy to any Tier 2 or higher backer that asks for it. still am -pretty- we ought to be able to do it. I've been pretty clear about not knowing what's involved with Switch keys, and I. I will still attempt to get Switch keys to anyone that has backed us that wanted that instead of a Steam version, but if your backing us was vested solely in the hopes of getting a Switch version, I think it would be totally fair for you to cancel your support. This is the kind of thing I was worried about (nevermind any other roadblocks that might pop up.) and why I'm not going to include Switch keys as any backer reward. I'm not sure I have access to this material yet as a Switch developer, but another dev with a Switch game on Kickstarter has said that developers have to purchase their own keys through Nintendo to distribute. So, I've not yet confirmed this, but it sounds like Switch developers can't request keys and distribute them as they like the same way you can with Steam. However, here is your chance to help in the development, and pick up a cheaper(?Retail Price not confirmed afaik) copy of the game. I'd add it as a stretch goal, but I'm not sure if this is going to be a funding issue or just a development issue. Incidentally, we'd also like to port to the handheld systems, but we're not yet sure if this is feasible. I don't recall what I'm allowed to talk about given the NDA we signed with Nintendo, but I will say Stegosoft Games has already been approved for Nintendo development, and all we need is the gear! KICKSTARTER RISE OF THE THIRD POWER FULLThis won't cover the full cost (probably) but it'll make sure we can get most of the stuff we know we're going to need. ![]() Stretch Goal 1: Nintendo Switch Port - $12500 So, as I said, this is something we're definitely going to do anyway. They're currently (12th April) 100% of the 10k USD goal, so the game will proceed in development normally! :) ![]()
